Obituary of Jan Bivins

Funeral services for Jan Bivins, age 61, of Cumby will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 18, 2014 at West Oaks Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jimmy Henry officiating. Interment will follow at Cumby Cemetery with Josh Gaines, Shannon Gaines, Barry Holman, Hayden Hollon, Heath Petty and Chris Radney serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Saturday, May 17, 2014 at West Oaks Funeral Home. Jan passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital. Jan was born on October 27, 1952 in Hopkins County the daughter of Barney Lee and Atha Lae (Petty) Gaines. Jan worked as a teacher, teaching nurses at Paris Junior College. She was a registered nurse at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital. She achieved her nurse practitioner license and worked in family health care at the Family Medical Association Clinic in Sulphur Springs. She took care of countless patients at the nursing homes in Sulphur Springs and Emory. She is survived by sons, John Bivins and wife Halie of Colorado City, TX, James Bivins of San Angelo, TX, daughter, Joni Doty and husband Phillip of Colorado City, TX, granddaughter, Graceyn Bivins, brother, David Gaines of Cumby. She was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Gerald Lee Gaines. Arrangements are under the direction of West Oaks Funeral Home. www.westoaksfuneralhome.com
