Obituary of Clay Deaton Mitchell

Funeral services for Clay Deaton Mitchell, age 19, of Sulphur Bluff will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at the Sulphur Bluff High School Gym with Dr. Cecil McLeod, Rev. Mike Eason and Rev. Robert Newsom officiating. Interment will follow at Sulphur Bluff Cemetery with Cole Mitchell, Ty Oliver, Markus Bassham, Tel Pitcock, Joe Bob Self, Keith Ogren, Will Wilson, and Wade Juarez serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the 2013 Graduating Class of Sulphur Bluff High School, Don Sapaugh, Lee Pogue, Ryan Glenn, Colt Glenn, Colt Hernes, Blake Irwin, and Tyler Raine. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at West Oaks Funeral Home. Clay passed away Friday, May 9, 2014. Clay was born on September 23, 1994 in Paris, TX, the son of W. O. Mitchell, Jr. and Angela (Deaton) Mitchell. Clay was a 2013 graduate of Sulphur Bluff High School, he went to Clarendon College where he received a degree in 2014 for ranch and feedlot operations. Clay worked at Sulphur Bluff Ranch and was a member of Sulphur Bluff Baptist Church and he loved to rope, play sports and spend time with family and friends. Clay is survived by his father, sisters, Courtney Mitchell of Austin, Carmen Dufrene and husband Bill of Sulphur Bluff, aunts and uncles, Brad Deaton of Sulphur Springs, John Mitchell and Laura of Pickton, Anida Reed and husband Greg of Como and Eva Froneberger and husband Johnny of Sulphur Springs, nephews Brady and Benton Dufrene, grandparents, Carol and Darrell Deaton, and numerous aunts and uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother, grandparents, Oran and Janice Mitchell, Sr. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Clay Mitchell Scholarship Fund at City National Bank, 201 Connally St., Sulphur Springs, TX 75482.
