Obituary of Rosemary Tucker Bailey

Rosemary Tucker Bailey was born July 19, 1925 in Sulphur Springs, Texas to Thomas James Tucker and Pearl Corbet Tucker. She passed peacefully May 12, 2018. She was the youngest of 4 children including Ruth Margaret (Bebe) Tucker Day, Dorothy Dell Tucker Slavik, and T.J. Tucker, Jr., all of whom are deceased. After graduating from Sulphur Springs High School, she attended the University of Texas for a short while and then worked in several jobs in support of the war effort in Dallas, Texas and California. She married Malcolm Zachary Bailey in 1946 and had one child, Janet Bailey Shieldes. Malcolm died in 1980 and Rosemary is survived by Janet, her husband Bill Shieldes, two grandchildren, Russell Scott Shieldes (J.J.) and Lee Bailey Shieldes (Susan), and one great-grandchild, Elizabeth Marie Shieldes.

She was a lifelong member of the First Methodist Church of Sulphur Springs, Texas and a member of the Crusader Sunday School Class. She and Malcolm operated Bailey Realty & Abstract until it was sold in the mid 1980's. She was extremely active in various clubs in Sulphur Springs and Hopkins County. She was a member of the Waverly Club where she held many offices. Also, she was a member of the Junior Waverly Club where she held most all offices. She was a Pink Lady Hospital Auxiliary volunteer at the Hopkins County Memorial Hospital. Additionally, she was a charter member of the Dial Study Club and a member of the Lena Day Garden Club. At other times she was a member of the Hopkins County Chamber of Commerce; served on the board of the Hopkins County Dairy Festival; was a member of the Women's Forum; served on the board of the Women's Building; and a member of the Mothers' Culture Club. Finally, she was a member of a Financial Club.

From Aug. 2010 until her death, Rosemary resided at North Brook Place Assisted Living in McKinney, Texas.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 25, 2018 at West Oaks Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Dean Libby officiating. There will be no formal visitation. Donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the First Methodist Church of Sulphur Springs and the Sulphur Springs Public Library.
