Obituary of Charlie Charles
Funeral Services for Charlie Otto Charles, Jr., age 86 of Sulphur Springs, will be held at First Baptist Church of Sulphur Springs at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 27, 2013, with the Reverend Fred Lewis officiating and under the direction of West Oaks Funeral Home. Visitation will occur at the church commencing at 9:00 a.m. on the day of the service. Burial will follow in City Cemetery of Sulphur Springs. Charlie passed away on December 22, 2013 after a brief illness. Pallbearers will be Stacey Cody, Eugene Clark, Bill Alford, Mickey Eddins, Gordon Ford, and Tom Howell. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Radio Bible Class of First Baptist Church as well as Charlie's grandsons, great-grandsons and sons-in-law. Charlie was born on March 1, 1927 in Fannin County, Texas, to Charlie Otto Charles, Sr., and wife, Mary Esther Reily Charles. He had resided in Sulphur Springs since 1959 and retired after a decades-long career as a sales representative for Ideal Baking Company in Paris and in the same capacity for Pratt Packing Company of Sulphur Springs. Charlie was a member of First Baptist Church of Sulphur Springs and his avocation for over forty years was diligently visiting on behalf of the church, those who were homebound, hospitalized, and residents of local nursing homes. He married Mary Helen Barnett on May 11 1946, and she preceded him in death in 2005. He is survived by his three children, Ronald Wayne Charles and wife Shirley, of Sulphur Springs, Linda Gale Blount and husband Ronald, of Sulphur Springs, and Mary Ann Pavey and husband Kip, of Texarkana; grandchildren Shelley Burton and husband Jerry of Sulphur Springs, Shara Roden and husband Darren of Lewisville, Shelbi Jacobs and husband Travis of Longview, Jerry Wayne Blount and wife Misty of Sulphur Springs, Courtney Allbritton and husband Ty of Sulphur Springs, Amy Yancey and husband Scott of Redwater, Blake Pavey of Florida, and Taylor Pavey of Florida. He is also survived by great-grandchildren Shadden Burton, Shaddox Burton, Charli Roden, Chesley Roden, Jackson Blount, Brody Blount, Colten Langdon, Meagan Langdon, Mason Langdon, Amber Yancey, and Allison Yancey. He is also survived by brothers Billy Charles and wife Rosemary of Houston, Mackey Charles and wife Sherry of Paris, and John Earl Charles and wife Eugenia of Frankston. In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by his brothers, R. M. Charles and Harry Lee "Sonny" Charles. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Radio Bible Class of First Baptist Church of Sulphur Springs.
