Obituary of Daniel Evans

Clay Evans, 37, of Como passed away Thursday, June 6, 2013 at M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston. Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, June 9, 2013 at Como United Methodist Church with Pastor Beverly Olson officiating. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, June 8, 2013 at West Oaks Funeral Home in Sulphur Springs. Burial will follow at Forest Academy Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Cory Payne, Adam Russell, Phillip Kincaid, Josh Collins, J.J. Cummings, Eric Evans, Jeff Matthews, Scott Courson. Honory pallbearers Gary Anderson, Mike Odell, Troy Hill, Mike Teer, Brandon Gunn, Mark Humphrey and Cecil Leach. Born April 17, 1976 in Winnsboro, TX. Clay is survived by wife Jennifer Payne Evans and daughter Aubree Lynn. Brother Andy Evans of Como and Sister Laine Evans Randack and her husband Tommy of Wylie; parents Bill and Patsy Evans. Niece and nephews Harper and Sam Randack and Ely Evans. Preceded in death by Sam and Pauline Matthews of Como and Ralph Evans, Sr. of Celeste. Clay was a son, brother, friend and budding new father. He was a businessman and farmer. He mended fences, shepherded herds and flocks, renovated homes, tinkered with tractors, and helped balance the books and handle day-to-day transactions as co-keeper of Evans Farms in Como. He radiated joy for life and people. It was evident in the smile on his face that was as standard as latitude and longitude. It was evident in his handshake. Games of stickball and tackle-the-man football in his yard were favorite past-times as a child. He had swift feet and was a giggler with the ball. Clay graduated from Como-Pickton High School and San Angelo State University with a degree in Wildlife Management. Before returning to college, Clay traveled the nation for several years as an industrial electrician with Siemens Dematic. From Pennsylvania and Georgia to Michigan and California, Clay showed his acumen for work and play while stopping to see the sights along the way. Clay loved games, from darts to baseball. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and activities ranging from skiing, on land or water, to camping and cooking. He was competitive, but losses didnÂ’t spoil his fun. Winning was icing on the cake for him and there was plenty of icing on his cake. He fed multitudes with his harvests from the Earth. Clay was slow to give a strong opinion but quick to stand for what he felt was right. He was quiet and unassuming but his presence undeniable. His ability to identify with people born of every circumstance was a gift. He was a cherished member of his family and community because of it. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Aubree Lynn Evans Education Fund at Alliance Bank in Sulphur Springs.
