Obituary of Leland Nolan Campbell

Funeral service for Leland Nolan Campbell, age 96, of Beaumont, TX formerly of Emblem, will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 22, 2017 at West Oaks Funeral Home Chapel with Dale Campbell officiating and Bro. Steve Cook assisting. Interment will follow at Ridgeway Cemetery with family serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., prior to service time. Leland passed away on Monday, April 17, 2017 at Pelican Bay Assisted Living in Beaumont, TX. He was born on September 28, 1920, in the Emblem Community, the son of Andrew Henry and Marie Chapman Campbell. He graduated from Sulphur Springs High School in 1939 when they won the Bi-district Championship in football. He also lettered in basketball and track. He later joined the United States Navy and served in WWII. He married ImoLee Gardner on August 17, 1940 in Sulphur Springs, TX. She preceded him in death on November 18, 2009. He owned and operated Campbell Food Store in Beaumont for many years. He attended Wesley United Methodist Church, and volunteered for many years, with others in the congregation, at the Some Other Place Mission in Beaumont. He is survived by son, Nolan Wayne Campbell and wife Sybil of Kissimmee, FL, daughter, Darla Duplecion and husband Blaine of Sour Lake, TX, sisters, Helen Black of Tyler, TX, Melba Adams of Hitchcock, TX, Frances Daniels and husband Billy of Sulphur Springs, TX, grandchildren, Cynthia Mantia and husband Michael of California, Liza Hickey and husband Bill of Illinois, Leah McIntosh and husband Keith of Sour Lake, TX, great-grandchildren, Heather and Derek Campbell, Claire and Cade McIntosh, sister-in-law, Oretha Campbell Isaacks and husband Kyle. In addition to his wife, he was also preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Eugene Campbell and wife Bonnie, Aubrey Henry “Riley” Campbell, sisters, Polly Jones and husband Melvin, JoAnn Lindley and husband Harold, and brothers-in-law, Mervin Black and Billy G.
