Obituary of Jim Harris

Funeral service for Jim “Kimo” Harris, age 83, of Alba, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 16, 2016 at Lake Fork Baptist Church with Bro. Perry Crisp officiating. Interment will follow at Lake Fork Cemetery with David Thomas, Max Thomas, Paul Young, Trevor Young, Rick Harris, and Paul Harris serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Wilton Mabry, Bill Anderson, Karl Jones, and Ronnie Rawls. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 Thursday, December 15, 2016 at West Oaks Funeral Home. Jim passed away Tuesday December 13, 2016 in Sulphur Springs at Christus Mother Frances Hospital. He was born on September 7, 1933 to Hillard Paul and Veta Jewell Vaughan Harris. He married Ruth Meador on August 20, 1960. She survives. He was a member of the Lake Fork Baptist Church. He was a man of faith and Biblical knowledge who loved the Lord and taught that love to his family. He enjoyed being a grandfather very much. One highlight was a trip in 2006 which he accompanied his daughter and family to China to bring home his new granddaughter. He was member of the State championship football team of 1951 at Arlington High School. He served in the United States Navy from 1953-1957 and graduated with a BS degree from North Texas State University in Denton, TX in 1962, and then had a career as an IRS agent. Jim enjoyed camping, fishing, and traveling, especially to Hawaii. He also enjoyed southern gospel and bluegrass music. In addition to his wife Ruth Harris, he is survived by son Nathan “Nate” Harris and fiancé Sonia Morgan of Sulphur Springs, Andrea Young and husband Paul of Richardson, Merideth Thomas and husband David of Benton, AR, brothers, Paul Harris and wife Lynne of Bedford, Rick Harris and wife Paige of Cleburne, sister, Stella Seidel and husband Bernie of Arlington, grandchildren, Trevor, Camille, and Simon Young, Max, Shelby, and Sam Thomas, Natalie and Andrew Harris, and special friends Karl and Marilyn Jones. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorials may be made to Lifeline Chaplaincy, 1415 Southmore Blvd, Houston, TX 77004.
