Obituary of Amanda Beard

Funeral services for Amanda Lee Beard, age 93, of Sulphur Springs will be conducted at 12:00 noon, Saturday, June 8, 2013 at Morning Chapel Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Harold B. Nash officiating. Interment will follow at East Caney Cemetery with The Deacons of Morning Chapel Missionary Baptist Church serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Laroyce Beard, Michael Beard, Weldon Beard, Sheldon Beard, Kennedy Smith, Jason Beard, Terrance Smith and Chudney Beard. Visitation will be from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., Friday, June 7, 2013 at West Oaks Funeral Home. Mrs. Beard passed away Thursday, May 30, 2013 at her residence. Mrs. Beard was born on November 9, 1919 in the East Caney Community in Hopkins County the daughter of Oscar Lee and Dollie Mae (Askew) Beard, Sr. She married Nathaniel “Fat Son” Beard, Sr. in 1944. He preceded her in death. She attended the East Caney Community School District. She was a retired domestic engineer for several years and then became a caregiver for all of her grandchildren. She was a faithful member of Morning Chapel Missionary Baptist Church and she taught the Women’s Sunday School, she was president of Lydia Circle, member of Usher Board No. 2, member of the Imperial Choir and faithful to the Nursing Home Ministry for many years. She is survived by one son, Nathaniel Beard, Jr and wife Linda of North Richland Hills, TX, daughter, Brenda Beard of Sulphur Springs, TX, brother, Oscar Smith, Jr. of Sulphur Springs, TX, 13 grandchildren, LaRoyce Beard, Cecilia Peoples, Shelli Beard, Michael Beard, Lolitha Peoples, Weldon Beard, Franchesca Beard Johnson, Kennedy Smith, Shelton Beard, Jason Beard, Terrance Smith, Chudney Beard, Shemika Smith, God granddaughter, Bridney Branch Burleson, 24 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces nephews and other relatives and friends. She was proceeded in death by her parents, daughter, Lola Mae peoples, sister Jennie V. Arnold, and brother, Roger Lee Smith.
