I was saddened to learn of Stephen's passing in the Vanderbilt alumni magazine. Although it has been about 45 years since "Tex" and I were friends at Vanderbilt's Hemingway Hall - I still remember him for his good-nature, warmth, and fun-loving spirit. My condolences to all of his family upon your loss.

It is with great sorrow that I receive this news. Stephen was a groomsman in Nettie's and my wedding. We had such great times after college, mostly at sporting events. Since the Bonners are in Texas and the Parks are in Chicago, we mostly caught up with each other through Christmas card and the occasional phone call. Our heartfelt condolences to the entire Bonner family; especially Cathy and Byrd who was my little brother at the fraternity.

My husband had the honor of working with Mr. Bonner at Cooper High School. Mr. Bonner was always very encouraging, very supportive...always visiting my husband before football games to offer uplifting words. He was always happy and always positive, finding something good to say at every opportunity. He always showed amazing support and encouragement to the students at Cooper, including my son. For years, he would ask him for his autograph before ballgames, explaining that someday he would be famous and he would make money off that signature. My son, now a sophomore, has that great memory of Mr. Bonner. I, too, have great memories of him. With family in Hopkins County, he kept up with my family gatherings in the "Tira News" and loved to reminisce with me about them each time we met. He meant a lot to our family, and he will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Bonners.

I had the good fortune to teach with Mr. Bonner at Cooper ISD. He was one of the kindest and funniest people I have ever known. He never had an unkind word to say about anybody. I would run into him in Sulphur Springs from time to time after I left Cooper and he would always have something to say to me in that witty way he had. Mr. Bonner was truly one of a kind and will be missed. My deepest sympathies to his family. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

The Bonners have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember, it seems. As a lad, I remember what a remarkable and larger-than-life figure Mr. Dan was, and what a presence he had when he entered a room. This same attribute was innate in Bubba, and whether the atmosphere was serious or one of levity, when he appeared he knew exactly what to say.
He was the first and one of the few to call me "Arv." I'd love to hear him say it again; one day, I'm sure I will. Stephen was the epitome of one who could "walk with kings, but not lose the common touch." This world is a much better place because of Stephen Bonner, and a much poorer place with his absence.
Cathy, Lou Jane, Byrd, Danny, and all your wonderful family, though I cannot know exactly how you feel, I know that you hurt deeply. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.
Thanks, Bubba, for being who you were. Our lives were made better because we knew you.

Cathy and family: We were heartbroken to hear of Stephen's passing. What a great man! He was beloved by many, always had a smile for everyone, and had a spirited way of making anyone around him laugh. We always loved visiting with him, and listening to his stories. He was a wealth of information on just about every topic! As much as we hate losing him here, I know he has already found James Cameron and they are laughing together and telling Wildcat stories to everyone around! If there is anything we can do, please let us know.

My thoughts and prayers are with Lou Jane, and the entire Bonner family. My parents, Albert and Leah Armstrong lived just across the street from the old hospital. I knew his Grandparents Dr. and Mrs. S. Byrd Longino, I remember when the Bonner's built their building between Raymond Pogue Grocery and the Railroad Station where my Dad worked. I remember when Lou Jane married Dan, and the births of each of the boys. You all have so many memories of all the happy times and I'm sure Stephen will want you to share them over and over. May you feel the loving arms of God holding you close as you face the days ahead. Blessings to each of you.

Our hearts and our prayers go out to all of your family and friends Mr. Bonner.
Our mother recently passed.
Something that helps comfort us is something that Jesus said; " All those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out. " John 5:28,29 This is only one of the many wonderful promises in The Bible and why we pray in The Lord's Prayer " Thy Kingdom come " .

I worked with Mr. Bonner at Cooper isd. He was the kindest man I have ever met. He always asked how my kids were and told me that he was praying for all of us. When my oldest son joined the Navy, Mr. Bonner was so proud of him. He asked me for his address and he would send him words of encouragement and tell him how proud he was of him. You don't find people as kind and caring as Mr. Bonner anymore. I will miss his ready smile and kind words. See you later sir.

We have lived in Sulphur Springs now for 39 years I first encountered Mr. Bonner at the baseball field and was aware that he was a man that loved sports just by listening to him however really did not know much about him until I started eating breakfast at Pioneer Café and his friend Perry Altumbauer would come in and eat breakfast from time to time and Steve would join him when he was able. He would allow me to join in a conversation at times and they were all enjoyable he always had a smile for everyone and was so interesting telling stories about history I never wanted to leave his stories and go to work but of course I had to. I will miss him greatly but he will always be a part of me because he is in my heart and I can just see Him and my Dad telling their stories to each other right now. My Prayers are with and remember Steve will never be forgotten -
