Obituary of Thelma Grace Stewart

Thelma Ross Stewart Thelma Grace (Ross) Stewart passed away on November 7, 2014. Thelma was born in Ridgeway, Texas on October 22, 1921, the middle daughter of six children born to Henderson Glen Ross and Una Chapin Ross. She is survived by two sons, Jim Stewart and Chuck Stewart both of Dallas, TX, three grandsons, Pearson Stewart of Dallas, TX, Michael Stewart of Rising Star, TX, and Chris Stewart of Mesquite, TX and two great grandsons, Travis and Hagen and one great granddaughter Audrey Grace Stewart. She is survived by one brother, Chapin Ross of Sulphur Springs, TX and one sister, Rosemary Wheat of Garland, TX. Her brothers, Nelson Ross and H. G. Ross and her sister, Chloe Spencer, preceded her in death. She graduated from Sulphur Springs High School in 1938 and attended East Texas State University. She taught school at Crossroads School in 1941 Thelma married James Odell Stewart on March 17, 1942 in Las Vegas, NV; he preceded her in death on November 23, 1999. They lived in Manhattan Beach, CA and worked at North American Aviation until Odell was inducted in US Army in 1944. Thelma returned to Sulphur Springs to await his return from the war. In 1946 he joined Thelma in Sulphur Springs. She resided in Sulphur Springs until 1966 when the family relocated to Bryan, Texas. After two years, the company transferred them to Corsicana, Texas. And in the final company move, they relocated to Dallas, living in Lancaster, Texas. Upon retirement in 1983, Thelma and Odell returned to Sulphur Springs and enjoyed reacquainting with old friends. Thelma enjoyed her involvement in the Civitan club when Odell served as President of the Dallas Chapter. She was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution. She worked 12 years at Federated in Sulphur Springs as a bookkeeper. She also worked at Navarro Junior College in Corsicana, Texas. Prior to retirement, she served as the Assistant Librarian at Kimball High School in Dallas, Texas She loved to cook and enjoyed sharing her recipes. She spent the last years of her life at the Hopkins House assisted living facility in Sulphur Springs, Texas and was at Rock Creek Rehab and Nursing Facility at her death. Graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 10, 2014 at Restlawn Memorial Park with Bro. Jerry Savage officiating. There will be no formal visitation.
