Obituary of Mary Elizabeth Julian

Funeral mass of Christian burial for Mary Elizabeth Julian, age 69, of Sulphur Springs, TX, will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at St. James Catholic Church with Deacon Jerry Besze officiating. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park with Jay Julian, Jr., John Julian, Joseph B. Ames, Jr., Jason Ames, Gaylord Whiting, and Danny Blount serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Sam Tatum, Marvin Duval, and E.A. Junell. Mrs. Julian passed away Thursday, March 13, 2014 at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Julian was born on March 18, 1944 in Sulphur Springs, TX, the daughter of Joseph Burroughs Ames, Sr. and Mary Sue Shelton Ames. She married Jay William Julian on January 23, 1965 in Sulphur Springs, TX. He preceded her in death on July 15, 2001. Mrs. Julian attended Sulphur Springs High School, graduating in 1962 and attended East Texas State University in Commerce, TX. Mrs. Julian and her husband along with their sons owned and operated Home Place Mobile Home Park in Sulphur Springs from 1972 until 1988. In 1981, Mrs. Julian began her 30 plus year banking career at Sulphur Springs State Bank, where she managed the bookkeeping department and some other back-office departments along the way. Mrs. Julian retired from banking in December 2011. She is survived by sons, Jay W. Julian, Jr. and John P. Julian both of Sulphur Springs, brother, Joseph B. Ames, Jr. and wife Diane, sister, Samantha Whiting and husband Gaylord, as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband she was also preceded in death by her parents, and brother John Shelton Ames.
