Obituary of Lloyd Johnson

Funeral services for Lloyd Johnson, age 85, of Sulphur Springs will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 6, 2014 at West Oaks Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Pete Adrian officiating and Rev. Debbie Riggsby assisting. Interment will follow at Richland Cemetery with Ralph Wadsorth, Eddie Almond, Dr. Ronald Stanley, Steve Cooper, Bernie Beam and Gene Scruggs serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Marvin Jones, Elton Stewart and Truman Renshaw. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at West Oaks Funeral Home. Mr. Johnson passed away Saturday, March 1, 2014 at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital. Mr. Johnson was born on February 14, 1929 in Mt. Vernon, TX, the son of Weaver Henry and Lillis Virginia (Reeves) Johnson. He married Jo Ann Staples on December 16, 1955 in Tyler, TX. She survives. Mr. Johnson attended Winona Schools and graduated from Tyler High School in 1945. Mr. Johnson served in the Navy during the Korean War and served on board the USS Wasp. He worked for the Department of Public Safety and was a Texas Ranger and retired after 35 years. He was a 50 year member of the Castillian Masonic Lodge #141 and was a Past Master. Mr. Johnson was a member of First United Methodist Church. In addition to his wife he is survived by three sons, Russ Johnson and wife Sandy of Tyler, TX, Tracy Johnson and fiancé Nicole Sorley of Sulphur Springs, TX, Scott Johnson and wife Amy of Arlington, TX, brother, Bob Johnson and wife Beverly of Palestine, TX, grandchildren, Joshua Johnson and wife Jill of Tyler, Courtney Allison and husband Matt of Sierra Vista, AZ, Callie Johnson of Arlington, TX, Blake Johnson of Arlington, Trevor Johnson of Sulphur Springs, TX, and Tucker Johnson of Tyler, TX, great-grandchildren, Shepard Johnson, Fisher Johnson, and Kinsler Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 301 Church Street, Sulphur Springs, TX 75482.
