Obituary of George Tolson
Private graveside services for George E. Tolson will be conducted on Friday, May 10, 2013 at Restlawn Memorial Park with Rev. Charles Moore officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, May 9, 2013 at West Oaks Funeral Home. Mr. Tolson passed away Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at Carriage House Manor. George E. Tolson was born May 23, 1929 to Margaret Metcalf and Houston Oval Tolson in Sulphur Springs, Texas. He was a lifelong resident of Hopkins County. He married Dorothy Raye Slagle February 24, 1953 in Hugo, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death on December 29, 2000. Mr. Tolson was self-employed man. He began in the service station business and eventually in the trucking industry starting with milk trucks and then the grain and molasses business. He enjoyed his farm and raising cattle. Mr. Tolson was a 32nd degree Mason and a 58-year member of the Sulphur Springs Lodge. George served on the board of directors for City National Bank for many years and was so proud of this position. Survivors include one daughter, Carmen Tolson Cross and husband Red of Sulphur Springs, two grandsons, Jordan Tolson Cross of The Colony and Taylor Thomas Cross of Sulphur Springs. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Myra Prim Grant, one niece, Julie Ann Tolson both of Sulphur Springs as well as faithful friend, Billy Mobley. In addition to his wife, Mr. Tolson was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Billy Gene Tolson.
