Obituary of Gertrude Barrett

A gracious, soft spoken lady of southern charm Gertrude Barrett passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2013. Gertrude was a life-long resident of Sulphur Springs and Hopkins County. She was married in Sulphur Springs to W. B. “Red” Barrett on February 12, 1949. He preceded her in death March 1964. She was also preceded in death by her parents, James and Pearl Edwards and a brother Troy Edwards. Survivors include her son Michael Barrett and daughter-in-law Debbie Barrett and her daughter Kathy Hutt of Allen. She was so proud of her grandchildren, Sara Anne Barrett of The Colony, Lauren Nicole Vaut of Allen, and Ryan Michael Hutt and wife Jenna of McKinney. Her great-grandsons are Cole and Jase Vaut of Allen. Gertrude is also survived by her sister Gadie Smith and special friend Nadine Cawthron. Gertrude was a long-time member of First Baptist Church in Sulphur Springs where she was active in the Silver Tone Choir, WMU, and Sunday school. She worked for many years at Marshall’s Dept. Store on the Square in Sulphur Springs and J. C. Penny. Gertrude was dearly loved and cherished by her family and friends. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 27 at Restlawn Cemetery with Fred Lewis officiating.
