Obituary of Laverne Baxley

Funeral services for Laverne Baxley, age 87, of Sulphur Springs will be conducted at 9:00 a.m., Saturday, January 5, 2013 at West Oaks Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Tommy Johnston officiating. Interment will follow at Union Cemetery with David Owens, Arvis Tanton, Kenny Baxter, Ryan Smith, Joey Baxter and Doyle Glossup serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, January 4, 2013 at West Oaks Funeral Home. Laverne passed away Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital. Laverne was born on November 27, 1925 in Sulphur Springs, TX, the daughter of Ernest and Emma (Fox) Rhodes. She married L.C. Baxley on May 28, 1949 in Longview. He preceded her in death in 1997. She was a homemaker and a member of Union Baptist Church. Survivors include two daughters, Patti Burns and Judy Smith of Sulphur Springs, grandchildren, Ryan Smith, Tammy Smith, Keith Smith, Angie Chester and Stacey Eppars, great-grandchildren, Blake and Haylee Chester, Brooke Smith, Brandy and Brittany Sharp, one sister, Juanita Friddle of Sulphur Springs, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Valton Rhodes and Jake Rhodes, two sisters, Louise Seale and Adell Friddle and one great-grandchild, Jaden Chester.
