Obituary of Claire Quortrup
Mrs. Claire Pratt Quortrup, age 83, of Dallas passed away peacefully at home after a short bout with cancer on Sunday, October 21, 2012. Born on February 15, 1929 in Greenville to Robert “Sally” and Helen Pratt, both late of Sulphur Springs, she attended Fairfax Hall in Waynesboro, VA and Hockaday, Jr. College and SMU in Dallas. Claire enjoyed many interests. She studied photography and built a darkroom in the 1970’s. She conducted genealogical research and eventually met family in Denmark. She managed her father’s cattle operation in Como after his death. She was never without a book and she was a long-time fan of the Texas Rangers. Claire is preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 46 years, William H. “Bill” Quortrup. She is survived by three children, William Hastings Quortrup, Jr and wife Dewie, Helen “Cissy” Hilbert and husband Peter, and Robert Hill Quortrup and wife Mary Ann; six grandchildren, Benjamin Quortrup, Oben Quortrup, Sarah Quortrup, Duval Hilbert, Zachary Quortrup and Noah Quortrup; and three great-grandchildren, Amanda Wagner, Anabelle Claire Quortrup, and Kees Quortrup. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 27, 2012 at the Myra Wilson Chapel at the Sulphur Springs City Cemetery with Pastor Tom Frisbie presiding. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. prior to service time at the Myra Wilson Chapel. Interment will be at the Sulphur Springs City Cemetery with family serving as pallbearers.
