He was raised in Hopkins County, TX with his 12 brothers and sisters. They were farmers and enjoyed the life in a large family. He served as a medic in the Army in World War II and moved to Dallas after his discharge to work at the Post Office-Terminal Annex. While in Dallas, he met Cecilia Drees whom he married on October 16, 1948. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Dallas and served as elder, teacher, and president of the congregation. After working at the Post Office for 32 years, he retired in 1978 and moved the family to the old home place in Brashear, TX. He fulfilled a dream and returned to his roots! He joined Our Savior Lutheran Church in Sulphur Springs where he served as elder and teacher. He loved the rich East Texas soil for his garden and helped others with construction projects. He loved the time he spent with his musical group entertaining at nursing homes in the area: singing and playing all of his instruments. He was very soft spoken and genuinely kind. He loved his family and cherished the time spent at family reunions.
