Obituary of John DeVries

Graveside services for John DeVries, age 70, of Sulphur Bluff will be conducted at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 18, 2012 at Sulphur Bluff Cemetery with Rev. Ed Dodd officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m., Saturday morning, August 18, 2012 at West Oaks Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Karl Ebel, Tony Moore, Barry Ward, Vic Ponder, Mike Ponder and Johnny Pierce. Mr. DeVries passed away Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at his residence. Mr. DeVries was born on February 16, 1942 in Artesia, CA, the son of Gerrit and Clazina (VanVliet) DeVries. He married Alice Koning on September 2, 1973 in Chino, CA. She preceded him in death on December 29, 2005. Mr. DeVries was a dairy farmer and a cattle rancher. He was a member of Sulphur Bluff First United Methodist Church and he served in the United States Army during Vietnam. He is survived by one son, Mitchell DeVries of Ft. Smith, AR; two daughters, Amy DeVries and husband Patrick Dennis, Julia Molteni and husband Aldo of Sulphur Bluff, TX; grandchildren, Brooke and Eden Molteni; brothers, Abraham DeVries and wife Minie of Ontario, CA, Cornelius DeVries and wife Mary of Rancho Cucamonga, CA; sister, Joan Van Leeuwen and husband Arlan of Oakdale, CA. In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to the Sulphur Bluff United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 33, Sulphur Bluff, TX 75481.
