Obituary of James Johnson
James Scott (Jim) Johnson was born on June 23, 1939 in Dallas, Texas to Graydon Scott Johnson and Nell West Johnson. He died peacefully on July 13, 2012 in Mesquite, Texas. Jim graduated from Sulphur Springs High School in 1957 during which time he became an Eagle Scout. He attended Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX, where he was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He received his BA in Accounting in 1961. He married his wife, Patricia Ann (Pat) Harrison on April 27, 1962. She survives. He joined the Army Reserve and served eight years. Jim was employed by HD Lee Corporation in Sulphur Springs. He was later promoted to the position of Internal Auditor in Kansas City, Kansas He returned to Hopkins County and served as Office Manager at Cannon Craft. Upon receiving his CPA , Jim opened his own CPA firm .He later became a partner with Bobby Burgin, forming the firm of Burgin, Johnson, Bawcom and Pruess. Jim had a passion for fishing. He spent most of his free time on the many East Texas lakes and later fulfilled his dream of living on Lake Fork. It was there he was happiest, spending time catching trophy Bass,crappie and hosting fish fry's for his family and friends. He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was a life long member of the First United Methodist Church and served in many capacities. Preceded in death by his parents, Jim is survived by sons Jeffrey Scott Johnson, of Yantis, Jay Ryland Johnson of Dallas, two grandsons, Alexander Scott Johnson and Zachary Lee Johnson both of Rowlett, Texas. Other survivors include his faithful dog Scooter and his grand-dogs, Jake and Thunder. He is also survived by numerous cousins and many friends. A special thanks to Victoria West Grandberry, Chris Johnson, and Bryan Howell for their love and support.
A celebration of Jim's life will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, July 17, 2012,with visitation following in the parlor at First United Methodist Church,301 Church Street, Sulphur Springs, TX., 74582.
In lieu of flowers, memorials maybe made in Jim's memory to the First United Methodist Church Foundation Fund or the Sulphur Springs City Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of West Oaks Funeral Home. www.westoaksfuneralhome.com
