Obituary of John Stribling
Funeral services for John M. Stribling of Sulphur Springs, will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at Shooks Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Steve Cook officiating. Music will be performed by David Stribling, Jr. Interment will follow at Shooks Chapel Cemetery with Larry Blount, John W. Stribling, Mark Osterberg,Doug Tietjem, Gary Stribling and David Stribling, Sr. serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Maynard, Jimmy Winfrey, Dr. Darren Arnecke and Ronnie Blount. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at West Oaks Funeral Home. John Stribling died Sunday, July 14, 2013 at Rock Creek Rehab Center. He was born in the Parks Springs Community on July 19, 1925, the son of William Gamblin Stribling and Lucille Gertrude (Darby) Stribling. He married Guynell Ray, his wife of 66 years, on March 29, 1947. John was a farmer and cattleman in Hopkins County for many years. He was an organizing member of the Hopkins County SheriffÂ’s Posse. In addition to his wife, John is survived by his daughter, Nancy Osterberg and husband Mark, son Tom Stribling and wife Mary, grandchildren, Kristin Heeren and husband Jon, Kimberly Osterberg, John W. Stribling, Callie Stribling, McKenzie Stribling, great-grandchildren, Joshua and Anna Heeren, brother, William Stribling and sister, Martha Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Chester Stribling and sister, Ruth Clifton. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made to the Shooks Chapel Cemetery Association, 209 S. Moore, Sulphur Springs, TX 75482.
