Obituary of Charles Mahaffey

Funeral services for Charles William Mahaffey, age 81, of Cumby, will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Bryant and Bro. Paul Pogue officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Cumby with Keith Ashmore, John Mahaffey, Johnny Steward, Kevin Steward, Ralph Kirkham and Alex McDowell serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, June 25, 2012 at West Oaks Funeral Home. Mr. Mahaffey passed away Saturday, June 23, 2012 at Medical Center of Plano. Mr. Mahaffey was born October 19, 1930 in Brashear, the son of Ben and Alma (Currin) Mahaffey. He married Paula Ann Lee on April 10, 1958 in Garland. She survives. Mr. Mahaffey was the owner of Charles Mahaffey Electric Co. from 1970 until his death. He also worked for Ford Motor Company from 1954 to 1969. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Sulphur Springs. He served in the United States Navy from 1951 - 1954. He is survived by his son, Rusty Mahaffey and wife Cheryl of Brashear, daughter, Sherry Sullivan of Rockwall. Grandchildren, Misty Cossey (Cecil Ray) of Haughton, LA, Mitchell Mahaffey (Brittany) of Addison, TX, Brooke Hughes (Hunter) of Argyle, TX, and Lance Benefield of Keller, TX, great grandchildren, Wyatt Woods, Hannah, Hayley, and Sarah Beth Cossey, Maddox Mahaffey, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, James Mahaffey, L.B. Mahaffey, sister, Leon Mahaffey and a son, Jack Mahaffey. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made, in honor of Mr. Mahaffey, to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 116 Oak Ave., Sulphur Springs, TX 75482.
