Obituary of Douglas Estes

Funeral services for Douglas Long Estes, 82, of Sulphur Springs, will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 12, 2012, at West Oaks Funeral Home with Dr. Shawn Brewer and Rob Stanley officiating. Interment will follow at North Hopkins Cemetery with Tim Loper, Coy Vicars, William Woodard, John Long, Dustin Soeder, and Sam Stewart serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Vaden Richey, Marvin Terry, and Jimmy Anderson. Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. prior to service time. Mr. Estes passed away on Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at Sulphur Spring Health and Rehab after a brief illness. He was born on February 13, 1930, in Addran, TX, the son of George Dewey and Jodie Mae (Long) Estes. Mr. Estes served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. He received the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal, and the United Nations Service Medal. He worked as a farmer, was a board member of the North Hopkins Cemetery Association, and was of the Baptist faith. He had a strong passion for music, and he applied great talent in playing the guitar for local dance events. He is survived by aunt, Margaret long Glosup, of Ridgeway, cousins, Dr.William H. Long and wife Georgie of Nellysford, VA, Sammie Bedford and husband Norman of Holly Lake, TX, Tommy Long and wife Carolyn, Frank Long and wife Julie, Carole Stanley and husband Ron, Donna Soeder and husband David, all of Sulphur Springs, Theresa Beach of Coppell, as well as numerous 2nd and 3rd cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Edith Jane Estes Neal.
