Obituary of Ola Hughes
Ola White Hughes (Ma) went to be with our Lord on April 28, 2012 at the Carriage House Manor in Sulphur Springs, Texas. Ola was a lifelong resident of Hopkins County and Sulphur Springs. She was born the daughter of John Rufus and Lourena Pickett White of South Liberty, Texas on July 31, 1906. Ola was one of 11 children all of whom preceded her in death. There were five brothers, W. S. (Will) White, Edgar White, Barto White, Clarence White and Delbert White and five sisters Ethel White Koon, Myrtle White Merrell, Opal White Smith, Avis White Tatom and Irma White Young. She was also preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Kay Hughes.
Ola married Gordon V. Hughes of Sulphur Springs in December, 1928. She and Gordon had one son, G. V. Hughes, Jr. Survivors include G. V. Hughes and wife Sharon of Sulphur Springs; grandchildren Greg Hughes and wife Kelly of Flower Mound, Gina Snyder and husband Doug of Sulphur Springs, Christinna Oldham and husband Chris of Fort Worth, and Rendee Bullard of Grapevine; great-grandchildren Hunter and Adam Hughes and Dayna Crim of Flower Mound, Joshua Snyder of Sulphur Springs, Dylan Bullard of Grapevine, Aaron and Megan Crim, and Lana and Phillip Rodriquez of Elgin, Texas; great-great grandchildren Kenzie and Braelynn Crim, Ethan and Ava Rodriquez, also of Elgin. She is also survived by nieces and nephews Valton Smith, Vonda Wright, Janie Lou Colbert, Billie Joe Lewis, Mary Humphries, Luther Dominy and a host of great nieces and nephews.
In her later years, she worked for Ike Clark Manufacturing and Munves Fashions where she retired at age 62. She has been a Baptist since she was 12 and a member of First Baptist Church of Sulphur Springs.
Mrs. Hughes resided at The Wesley House for 12 years and had lived at The Carriage House from November 2008 until her death.
Visitation for Mrs. Hughes will take place at West Oaks Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at 1:00 p.m., with Funeral Services immediately following at 2:00 p.m. The body will lie in state at the Chapel for viewing from Monday, April 30, 2012 until the start of the funeral services. Officiant will be Rev. Debbie Riggsby. Services are under the direction of West Oaks Funeral Home in Sulphur Springs, Texas. Pallbearers will be Greg Hughes, Doug Snyder, Joshua Snyder, Hunter Hughes, Adam Hughes, Valton Smith, Randy Rushin, and Joe Mack Gober
Burial will be immediately following at Restlawn Cemetery.
