Obituary of Oran Higgins Jr.

Memorial services for Oran H. Higgins, Jr., will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 25, 2012 at West Oaks Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Richard Higgins officiating. There will be no formal visitation. Oran H. Higgins, Jr. went to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at the age of 83. Oran was born on December 25, 1928 in Springfield, Colorado. He had four siblings: Bennie (Carl) Phillips, Bonnie-deceased (Jerry) Cox, Emma Jean (Nelson) French, and Doyle (Dorothy-deceased) Higgins. The Higgins family moved to Canon City, Colorado, where he grew up until the age of 18 when he joined the railroad. At the age of 22, he joined the Air Force and served three years as an airplane electrician. He was honorably discharged. While still in the Air Force, Oran met the love of his life, Alma Ruth McPherren, and they were married on April 9, 1951. They had been married for almost 53 years when she passed away. As an electrician, Oran improved his skills, gaining experience while in the employ of several businesses. He bought an electrical motor repair shop in Boulder, Colorado, and sold it several years later. He then moved to Sulphur Springs, Texas where he bought another shop, and later retired. He was known as an honest business man. They had 3 children: Rhonda (Ralph-deceased) Sappington, Sandra (Richard) Beach, and Richard (Cathie) Higgins. From those unions there are 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Oran loved to fish, and took family on many trips throughout his life. Preceded in death are grandparents, parents, wife siblings, and nephews. In lieu of flowers, please give to your local Hospice Organization.
