Obituary of Mark Whitten

Memorial services for Mark Whitten, age 62, of Sulphur Springs will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at West Oaks Funeral Home with Clark Whitten officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 prior to service time. Mark passed away Friday, February 10, 2012 at his residence. Mark was born on September 18, 1949 in Mt. Vernon, TX, the son of John David and Neva (Raney) Whitten. He married Nancy Ann Massey on June 17, 1977 in Sulphur Springs. She survives. He was a 1968 graduate of Saltillo High School. Mark retired from Hopkins County Precinct 1. Mark was a family man and of the Baptist faith. He loved to hunt and backpack. His hobbies were building furniture and he also built their family home. Other survivors include his children, Rusty Daniel and wife Melinda of Sulphur Springs, Amy Wilson of Sulphur Springs, Laura Patriquin of Saltillo, twin brother, Clark Whitten and wife Martha of Longwood, FL, sisters, Pamela Thompson and husband Jerry of Mt. Pleasant, Lyda Hatch and husband Mike of Waxahachie, Fleta Whitten of Hockley, Billie Whitten of Wheat Ridge, CO, Dedra Whitten Robertson and husband John of Mt. Vernon, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Denise and Ben Burkett of Waco, grandchildren, Cole and Cade Daniel, Cody and Clayton Wilson, Kiersten and Seth Patriquin, special nephew, Dustin Massey and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorials may be made to the Cypress Basin Hospice, 207 West Morgan, Mt. Pleasant, TX, 75455.
