Obituary of Bobby Gillis

Graveside services for Bobby Gerald Gillis, 81, of Sulphur Springs, will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 1, 2013 at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Cumby with Rev. Charles Moore officiating. Pallbearers will be William Baxter, Mark Fouse, Clay Walker, Carl Bryan, Doyle Wood, Mark Warren, Mark Warren, Jr., and Neil Williams. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, June 30, 2013 at West Oaks Funeral Home. Mr. Gillis passed away on Thursday, June 27, 2013 at Carriage House Manor in Sulphur Springs. He was born on November 24, 1931 in Cumby, TX the son of Aura Kyle “A.K.” and Ruth Marie (Record) Gillis. He married Janelle Gill on February 2, 1959 in Hopkins County. She survives. He served in the United States Army and was of the Presbyterian faith. He was involved with the Family Company “A.K. Gillis & Sons” for over 60 years. In addition to his wife, Mr. Gillis is survived by son, John Gillis and wife Deborah of Sulphur Springs, brother, Jack Gillis and wife Ruth of Sulphur Springs, grandson, Mathew Kyle Gillis of San Antonio, and nieces, Janet Jordan and husband Mike of Mt. Vernon, and Judy Gillis of Sulphur Springs. He was preceded in death by his parents. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Cal Farley’s Boys Home, P.O. Box 1890, Amarillo, TX 79174.
