Obituary of Lela Darrow
Funeral services for Lela Darrow, 89, of Miller Grove will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, 2011, at Miller Grove United Methodist Church with Bro. David Burns and Bro. Howard Strickland officiating. Burial will follow in Miller Grove Cemetery with her grandsons serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Lynn, James Robert Waskom, Jimmy Kilgore, Johnny Ferguson and Gary Darrow. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2011, at West Oaks Funeral Home.
Mrs. Darrow passed away Monday, Sept. 26, 2011, at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital. Lela Elizabeth Darrow was born Sept. 29, 1921, in the Henrys Chapel community of Rains County to John William Waskom and Lillie Emma (Ivie) Waskom. She married Wade Ellie Darrow on her 16th birthday in Campbell. He preceded her in death on Nov. 12, 1982. Mrs. Darrow was a homemaker. She was a devout member of Miller Grove United Methodist Church for most of her life and taught Sunday school for more than one-third of a century.
Survivors include one daughter, Betty Phillips and husband, Mack, of the South Liberty community; three sons, Ronny Darrow and wife, Kathy, of Sulphur Springs, and Johnny Darrow and wife, Sherry, and Brett Darrow and wife, Lynda, all of Miller Grove. She was also preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, William J. “Bill” Lynn, Everett Waskom, Ralph Waskom, Clayton Waskom and Robert Waskom; two sisters, Corene Sturdivant and Thelma Kilgore; and two infant siblings, Jesse and Beattrice Waskom.
