Obituary of William Beeson
William Burford Beeson
Mr. Beeson was born on August 23, 1916 to Sara Stinson Beeson and William Luther Beeson at the family farm in the Beckham Community of Hopkins County.
He graduated from Sulphur Springs High School and East Texas TeacherÂ’s College in Commerce. He taught school at Old Tarrant and Emory. He was one of the charter members of the Beckham Baptist Church. He married Juanita Kinnaird, who predeceased him and he was also preceded in death by one grandson, Shawn Harr. He is survived by daughters Joanne Beeson Williams and Linda Beeson Harr, and grandson Daniel Harr. Also survived by his brother Finley Beeson and his wife Margaret and a number of nieces and nephews whom he loved with all his heart. Mr. Beeson served in the United States Navy during World War II and later with the Texas Highway Patrol.
Mr. Beeson attended graduate school at East Texas TeacherÂ’s College, working toward a MS degree in agriculture, and was employed with the Farmers Home Administration for several years prior to accepting a position as senior vice president and bank manager at the First National Bank in Lamesa, TX. He was a deacon at the First Baptist Church, served as president of the Chamber of Commerce, and was a member of Rotary. He was a member of the American Legion Post #642 in Tira. He was also active as a Boy Scout as a young man and later as a scout leader. Mr. Beeson was also a banker in Colorado and California for many years. He retired to his birth place in Hopkins County and raised cattle until he was 85.
Mr. Beeson loved God, his country, his family, fishing, and Colorado. He was a loving father who had many friends and was never heard to speak an unkind word about any other person.
Funeral services for Mr. Beeson will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 19, 2011 at West Oaks Funeral Home Chapel. There will be no formal visitation and there will be a private interment. Pallbearers will be William Herndon, Jr., Michael Herndon, Leon Beeson, Clinton Coleman, Gary Thompson and Ronnie Doss.
