Obituary of William Herman

Funeral services for William Ben Herman, Jr., age 87, of Cumby will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 16, 2011 at West Oaks Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery with grandsons, Ben Herman, Jerod Stringer, Eric Stringer, Justin Nabers, Colt Herman, Mark Narramore, Mike Gordon, Jim Bell, and Kris Henley serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Cullen Tucker, Bill Taylor, Jerry Matlock, and Ronnie Charles. Family will receive friends at the funeral home at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service. Mr. Herman passed away on Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at his residence. He was born on August 12, 1923, in Sulphur Springs, TX, the son of William Ben Herman, Sr. and Sybil Lorene Holley Herman. He married Nita Cravens Herman in Mt. Pleasant, Texas on April 10, 1943. Ben worked many jobs and owned several businesses, but for most of his life, he owned and operated a dairy farm in Hopkins County. He retired from dairying in 1988, but continued to raise and trade cattle and horses for many years. He is survived by his wife Nita, two sons, Benny Herman and wife Marsha, Roger Herman and wife Shirley of Cumby, two daughters, Joan Stringer and husband Don, and Jan Ainsworth and husband Jim of Commerce. Ben was blessed with 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his mother and father.
