Obituary of Dorothy Ponder

Graveside services for Dorothy Ruth Ponder, age 85, of Sulphur Springs will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 25, 2011 at Restlawn Memorial Park with Rev. Tom Frisbee officiating. Visitation will be from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. prior to service time at West Oaks Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be John Devries, Corey Ponder, Christopher Ponder, John Dugan, Johnny Pierce and Gayden Jones. Mrs. Ponder passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Ponder was born on February 16, 1926 in Hope, AR, the daughter of George and Bessie Mildred (Haynes) Dodds. She married R. L. Ponder and he preceded her in death in December of 1987. Mrs. Ponder was a supervisor for Lone Star Gas for 20 years and retired in 1983. She was a member of First Christian Church. She is survived by sons, Russell Ponder and wife Ashley of White Right, TX, Vic Ponder and wife Debra of Sulphur Springs, Mike Ponder and wife Gwynita of Rowlett, TX, sister, Jane Sparks and husband Leward of Hobbs, NM, grandchildren, Corey, Elizabeth, Joshua, Christopher, Meagan, Rachel and Brennan, great-grandchildren, Bryce and Kailynn, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her grandson, Joshua Michael Ponder, sisters, Gena Graham, Mara McGill and Georgia Griffin.
