Obituary of Valta Rushing

Funeral services for Valta Gay (Whittiker) Rushing, age 89, of Sulphur Springs will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 24, 2011 at West Oaks Funeral Home with Bro. Art Nelson officiating. Burial will be at Bethel Cemetery in Franklin County. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m., one hour prior to service time. Ms. Rushing passed away on Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at Sulphur Spring Health and Rehab. She was born on October 29, 1921 in Mt. Vernon, TX, the daughter of William Elijah and Ruth Elena (Newkirk) Whittiker. She married James Alfred Rushing on May 13, 1939 in Wood County. He preceded her in death in 1982. Ms. Rushing worked in the medical field as a nurse aide for 21 years. Survivors include grandsons, J.R. Rushing and wife Cindy of Sulphur Springs, and Gaylon Rushing of Winnsboro, granddaughters, Tonya Burton and husband Timothy of Sulphur Springs, and Sonya Gale Hawks of Mt. Pleasant, niece, Virginia Bynum of Dallas, and numerous great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two sons, James Harlton Rushing and Larry Gaylon Rushing, and ten brothers and sisters.
