Obituary of Barbara Abercrombie
Funeral service for Barbara Gideon Abercrombie, age 83, of Sulphur Springs, will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, August 11, 2019 at West Oaks Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ed Lantz officiating. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park with Lee Levine, Shem Ray III, Jay McClendon, Jacob Landers, David Gideon, Robert Gideon, and Greg Martin serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Gen. Charlie Wilson, Poss Baxter, Don Russell, Hal Romack, Benny Johnson, and SSHS Class of 1954. Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m., prior to service time. Barbara passed away on Thursday, August 8, 2019 at Sulphur Springs Health and Rehab. She was born on February 12, 1936 in Sulphur Springs, the daughter of Skillman Wallace and Mary Virginia Higdon Gideon. She married Morris Wayne Abercrombie on April 25, 1954 in Hugo, OK. He preceded her in death in 2015. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She worked for Braniff Airlines, Hopkins County Memorial Hospital, People’s Bank, and the Department of Health and Human Services in Child Protective Services until she retired in 1990. She is survived by son, Tony “Abboe” Abercrombie and wife Martie of Sulphur Springs, brother, Bob Gideon and wife Ann of Sulphur Springs, sister, Gilda Landers and husband Larry of Sulphur Springs, grandchildren, Adam and Jennifer Abercrombie of Mineola, Shannon and Aaren Adams of Frisco, Brad and Holly Abercrombie of Arlington, Crystal and Bryan Sparks of Royse City, Emma White of Saltillo, James McBrayer of Denton, great-grandchildren, Parker Abercrombie, Madison and McKynlee Adams, Brailey and Rylan Sparks, and Amberly, Hallie, and Hannah White. In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents, son, Terry Lane Abercrombie, and brother, Bill Gideon.
