I did not know Tom well but we knew of each other because of our many years in the county. Tom was a treasure, a wealth of knowledge and a mentor for more young people than anyone can probably know for certain. He seemed to be able to do anything, and was willing to use his skills to help others in the ag field. We cannot replace these treasured individuals ever, and the ones coming forward are not numerous enough to handle the need in the role of "leader". Hopkins County has lost a precious resource and teacher, and his family has lost an unforgettable dad.

It’s with tremendous sadness that our former Classmate THOMAS MELTON HOWELL, Jr., has passed away to his to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus.
Tom has been a lifelong loyal and dear friend for almost fifty-six years, starting with our two years in seventh grade at Garland ISD’s S.F. Austin Jr. High School; then continuing together as initiated Greenhand Vocational Agriculture Students (in the Future Farmers of America program) as Freshman at Memorial Jr. High School and the finishing the last three years at South Garland High School in the graduating Class of 1969.
I’ve never met a man better in my life with higher Christian moral character than Tom Howell. He always set the best example with exemplary integrity in everyday life’s work as a classroom teacher, metal shop instructor, and dear friend.

Gladys, Matthew , Andrew and Dorthy; What a special man Tom was! God used him in so many ways that none of us will ever know. He was a Christ like servant to all of us, as a husband, dad, granddad, son, uncle brother, teacher and most of all a true friend. I want to thank our God for allowing my family to be a part of the Tom Howell Family! God bless you guys, Dortha, Randy and Rex Willeford

So sad to hear of Mr. Howell's passing. He was an amazing teacher to all of us Ag kiddos in Hopkins county. His impact will live on with all of his students, just like it will with me. Great Ag teachers like him are one of the many reasons I am proud to call myself an Ag teacher! Prayers for all of his family.

I am so saddened to hear this. Mr.Howell was my AG teacher from 1978-1981 at South Garland. If it had not had his leadership and concern for my well being I would be who I am today. He was a not only a teacher but a father figure to a lot of his students. Many late night and early morning trips to barn, stock shows and vet took him away from his family. His instruction will always be with me. My condolences to his family and thank you from the bottom of my heart for the Good Lord for putting him in my path.
