Obituary of Cassie Clayton

Funeral services for Cassie Mae Clayton, age 91, of Sulphur Springs will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at St. Luke Baptist Church with Troy L. Young officiating. Interment will follow at St. Luke Cemetery with Samuel Wright, Charles Clayton, Harry Washington, Jacob Lewis, Lloyd Lewis, Jr., and Darial Epting serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons. There will be no formal visitation. Mrs. Clayton passed away Saturday, January 18, 2014 at her residence. Mrs. Clayton was born on July 22, 1922 in Sulphur Springs, the daughter of Chester Arthur and Josie Mae (Bell) Lewis. She married Elgie Clayton, Sr. on November 27, 1943 and he preceded her in death on January 31, 1995. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Luke Baptist Church. She is survived by four daughters, Cassie Edwards and husband Billy Sr., Cynthia Perry and husband Charles, Donna Washington, and Teresa Nelson and husband Alton all of Sulphur Springs, TX, four sons, Vernon Clayton of Tyler, TX, Elgie Clayton, Jr. and wife Bonnie, Jerry Clayton both of Emory, TX, and Paul Clayton of Sulphur Springs, 27 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild, one sister Eleanor Clay of Tyler, TX, one brother, Lloyd Lewis, Sr. of Dallas, TX and a host of nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, two grandchildren, Daniel Edwards and Brian Clayton, three great-grandchildren, Caleyah Harris, Quinton Edwards and Amaya Edwards, five sisters, Patsy Lewis, Murdie Wright, Jessie Mae Epting, Ruth Scruggs and Loretta Murphy, six brothers, Samuel, Henry, Allen Ray, Hershel, Booker T. and Chester Lewis Jr., one step-sister, Zora Barnes.
