Obituary of Madeline Goldsmith

Funeral services for Mary Madeline Goodson Goldsmith, age 78, will be conducted at 2:00 AM, Monday, January 13, 2014, at West Oaks Funeral Home of Sulphur Springs, Texas. Madeline passed away at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital from an extended illness on January 10, 2014. Madeline, Mama, Granny, or Big Granny was loved and respected by everyone blessed to have known her. Madeline was born November 2, 1935, in El Dorado, Arkansas to Willie H. Goodson and Mary Alice Graves. They preceded her in death. Ms. Goldsmith worked many years at many different occupations. She was a butcher for several years for Pratt Packing, Hopkins County Food Locker, and her family-owned business. Madeline also worked many years for Sulphur Springs Independent School District as a bus driver and in the maintenance department. Her latest career involved a newspaper carrier for Sulphur Springs News Telegram. Every job was performed above and beyond the intended requirements. She instilled hard work ethics in her children, grandchildren, and anyone that knew her. Madeline enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, all other family, and friends. She adored southern gospel music and sang from her heart any opportunity she could. Ms. Goldsmith attended many Baptist churches in Hopkins County including Emmanuel Baptist and Rockdale Baptist church. She served as secretary and treasurer, as well as, Sunday school teacher at Rockdale for many years. Madeline is survived by three sons, Forest Goldsmith of Sulphur Springs, Jimmy Don Goldsmith and wife Yvonna, of Saltillo, Bryant Goldsmith and wife, Amy, of Hico, Texas; three daughters, Linda Stevens and husband, Edward, Mary Robinson and husband, Tommy, and Ruthie Collins and husband, Dean all of Sulphur Springs. She is also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and one great-great grandson. Ms. Goldsmith is also survived by three sisters; Linda Goldsmith of Sulphur Springs, and twin sisters, Nan Castoneda and Ann Summit both of California. Madeline is also leaving behind a legacy that includes a great number of family, friends and coworkers. She was also preceded in death by one son, Tommy Joe, two brothers, Robert and Louie Horne, and one sister Margie Faye Hayward. Visitation will be at West Oaks Funeral Home in Sulphur Springs from 6:00-8:00, Sunday, January 12, 2014. Services will be held Monday, January 13, 2014, at 2:00 PM. Pallbearers will be Cade Goldsmith, Michael McPherson, Adam Goldsmith, Dakota McPherson, Larry Jay Temples, Keith Gammill, Bobby Goldsmith, and Cole Risner. Honorary pallbearers are Quenton Wicks, Spencer Wicks, Blake Goldsmith, Heath Robinson, Dustin Self, Rowdy Self, Ryan Sharber, Travis Allan, Jody Allen, and the carriers of the Sulphur Springs News Telegram. “To live in the hearts we leave behind, is not to die.”
