Obituary of Charles Guthrie
Charles Thomas “Tom” Guthrie left this world on June 9, 2013 at the age of 67.
He was born July 7, 1945 to Ike and Annette Guthrie in Houston, Texas. He resided in Como, Texas until his death.
He was a hardworking man, even into his retirement, finding little projects in and around his home place. Tom was a loving husband, doting Daddy, proud grandfather, wonderful brother, and treasured friend.
He was the Daddy who would attend all football games just to watch his daughters perform with the dance team, play in the marching band or cheer with the cheerleading squad. He was also the Daddy who would be cheering his girls on at the finish line during track meets, or giving the umpire the what for during his daughter and son in law’s co-ed softball game. He was the PeePaw who cheered on his grandkids at their baseball and softball games. He was the PeePaw who would listen to a song played on the piano, then tell his granddaughter it was wonderful, even if it was way off. He was the husband who wrote his ‘Sweetie Pie’ love letters and poems. He would then be at her side during her terminal illness, holding her hand, whispering loving words to her until she was called home.
He was firm in his beliefs and convictions. He was honest, sometimes brutally, when the truth needed to be said. He loved deeply and unconditionally.
Tom is survived by four daughters: Cindy Smithers and husband Jeremy, Angie Kirkland and husband Brian, Paula Bennett and husband Chad, Samantha Tully and husband Jason, four sisters, Wanita Needham, Patricia Dunn, Frances McBride, nine grandchildren, Bo, Braden, Briley, Blake, Colby, Reagan, Aaden, Shelby, and Marshall.
Tom is preceded in death by a son, Jeremey Parker in 1999 and his beautiful wife, Linda in 2010.
A memorial celebration for Tom will be held July 6, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. on his home place in Como, TX.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Hopkins County VFW or the American Cancer Society.
