I was sorry to hear about Cassie. We graduated together in 1968. For the past years I only saw her at our reunions but it sounds like her family was truly blessed to have such a wonderful Christian woman in their lives. May God bless you with peace and wonderful memories.

I loved Cassie Clayton Edwards as far back as I can remember. We grew up together though 500 miles apart as my parents were born and raised in the SSTX area and moved to KCMO just prior to my and Cassie's same birth years. Every August our family would come to SSTX for a month an I loved going to summer school with them because they had to pick cotton in the fall. I thought it fun, they (Cassie and my cousins) thought differently because they lived there year-round. Overall, Cassie's life was sold out for Jesus which the world saw in her "giving herself away" to God's Glory as a daughter, wife, mother, friend, servant manifested in her musical and evangelistic ministry throughout her life! Hallelujah! She told me a few years back to look for her to sleep away into the arms of Jesus because that was her prayer request and He would honor that! He did and she is in His Presence NOW! Those of us who are Believers are rejoicing in the Faith she manifested among us! Yes, we'll MISS her with us, but WHAT A LEGACY of a life lived unto the LORD she's left us! Family and all of us who loved her, look at the Heavenly Host she's joined! God be with you til we meet again!

Cassie always had a beautiful smile on her face and had such a sweet spirit. Billy Wayne was one of my dad's (Michael Lewis's) best friends and Teresa and I are classmates. We are praying for the Clayton and Edwards family. There was indeed no one like Cassie. She had the sweetest spirit that reflected in her smile, and her actions. God bless you all. May the Lord comfort and keep you. As said by others, 'to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.' With sincere deepest sympathy.

Please accept my heartfelt condolences for your family. Praying for your peace and comfort in your loss of this great lady. She was always an inspiration, and personally from the 1960's when I first knew Cassie and Jerry in school. May God bless your family at this difficult time.

In the Word, In Corinthians 5:8, Paul says that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord." We all know that Cassie is with the Lord now so keep your head up. May God ever bless and keep you.

Cassie was a God fearing individual, a devout christian, with thoughts of peace and courage. She always had a smile on her face and kind, warm, thoughtful with spirit filled greetings every time I saw her. Words seem inadequate to express the sadness we feel about Cassie's death. We are here to support you in your grieving process. We loved her but, of course, God loves her best.
With sincere sympathy.

Cassie(Rita) is a christian sister and family to me.....all that I can remember about her when I was married to Vernon is good and decent...one rarely meets a person ( even a christian ) with such a beautiful gift of temperance and compassion. Her personality was distinctive from any other member of her family , I know because I practically grew up with her after marrying into the Clayton family right out of high school ....and Rita married the same year ,a couple of months later.....in those days we were married at such a young age. I remember when all of her children were born, when she started playing for her father's church in Emory, Morning Chapel, and St.Luke.....she was instrumental in inspiring me to become a Church musician, she loved it so, she made it seem so easy...but I found out it wasn't as easy as it looked...but I thank God for the gift of playing and singing because I admired the gifts in Rita...I regret that I wasn't able to visit during her illness ,but I shall cherish the memories . What a great christian example , what a strong witness, what a fervent petitioner when submitting prayers, and finally what a good example of a strong warrior who kept the faith and looked to Jesus, and watched Him perform His wonders in her life and other she had an impact on. ....."I'll see you again Rita, in that land where we'll see Jesus for ourselves......Hallelujah!"

We miss Cassie at the Health Department. We often visited with her when she was leaving work and we were walking. Jim knew Cassie through work at Rockwell, and I knew Cassie because I had the privilege to teach Marian and John. She was obviously a great parent; this was reflected in the success of her children. I particularly remember what a delight Marian was. She was so focused on her work, and I could actually "see her mind working." This is now obvious because Marian has done so very well in her career choice. (I will take a tiny bit of credit for this.)
Cassie left us too soon. Her grandchildren will certainly miss her influence and the attributes she would have taught them that they could have passed on to their families and respective communities. She set the bar high!

Ms. Cassie was one of the most beautiful women I have known, inside and out. I can hear her now singing "Because He Lives". She is now a part of God's special angel choir. She gave so much to so many, I got to know her thru the jail ministry & I know she helped so many of those women. Ms. Cassie was the very essence of Proverbs 31. My heart, thoughts & prayers are with her family & close friends, who I know are missing this very special angel.
Amen.
