Obituary of Joe B. Finnie

Funeral service for Joe Bailey Finnie, 75, of Sulphur Springs, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at West Oaks Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. B.R. Hargest and Rev. Troy Young officiating. Military Graveside honors by the Hopkins County Military Coalition will follow at Coffey Cemetery with Weldon Wright, Donnie Roland, Adrian Roland, Richard Finnie, Jr., Robert Finnie, and Joshua Leftrick serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at West Oaks Funeral Home. Mr. Finnie passed away on January 31, 2015 in Plano, TX. He was born on June 15, 1939 in Como, TX, the son of Verna Finnie James and Lester Vaughn. He joined the U.S. Army in 1957 after graduating high school. After two tours to Vietnam and wounded in combat twice, he was awarded 2 purple hearts and other awards medals. He was a life time member of the VFW and loved to play dominoes with his neighbors and all his domino friends. He married Luvenia Wright on January 15, 1977 in Hugo, OK. She survives. He is survived by a daughter JoAnn Guilford and husband Milton of Royce City, TX, a son Joseph Anthony Finnie of Clinton North Carolina, two grandsons, Chase Guilford and Cody Joe Guilford of Royce City, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives. He was preceded in death by one son, Monti Fitzgerald Finnie, three brothers, Travis James Felton Finnie and Tim Vaughn, two sisters, Lela Vaughn and Helen Berry.
