Obituary of Jerry O'Shield

Funeral services for Jerry Don “Charley” O’Shield, age 72, of Sulphur Springs will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 16, 2011 at West Oaks Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joel Tiemeyer officiating and Bro. Tommy Glenn assisting. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, December 15, 2011 at West Oaks Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Old Tarrant Cemetery with Rex Hargrave, Max Drummond, Thurman Littlefield, Walter Krecek, Billy Jo Clayton and Bill Bailey serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the Tira and Sulphur Springs domino hall players, the truck drivers and coffee drinkers at the Red Barn, Bob Morey, Tommy Dixon and James Diamond. Mr. O’Shield passed away Monday, December 12, 2011 at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital. Mr. O’Shield was born on September 10, 1939 in Hopkins County the son of Fred and Opal Grace (Johnson) O’Shield. He married Retha Cargal on September 27, 2002 in Eureka Springs, AR. She survives. Mr. O’Shield owned and operated Hill Top Used Tractor. He was an avid Domino player who played every chance he got. He loved to talk and tell stories to whomever would listen. He is survived by sons, Scotty Glynn O’Shield and wife Janet and Donny Ray O’Shield all of Mineral Wells, TX, daughter, Linda Rankin of Sulphur Springs, brothers, Glynn O’Shield and wife Judy of Windom, TX, Bobby O’Shield of Dallas, TX, sisters, Mary Stewart of Mesquite, TX, Brenda Smiddy of Sulphur Springs, grandchildren, Anna O’Shield, Ray O’Shield, Scotty O’Shield II, Trace O’Shield, Thomas Martinez and Tara Robinson, nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Billy Gene O’Shield, four sisters, Betty Cates, Joyce Burkham, Grace Rutledge and Dorthy Brown.
