Obituary of Dorothy Jean Smith
Dorothy Jean Smith of Portland, Oregon passed away unexpectedly on Sept 7, 2011. She was born in 1946 in Texas. She attended Highland Park High School, graduating in 1964. She moved to Lubbock, Texas to attend Texas Tech University. She married, Garry O. Smith in Lubbock in 1967 and stayed there to raise her two children. Throughout her life, she was a talented and gifted artist who created many beautiful drawings, paintings, weavings and metal jewelry. She was intelligent and researched the scriptures diligently, earned her bachelor's degree in education, earned her private pilot's license and read broadly on religion, art and architecture. She enjoyed travel and had an opportunity to see some of the most beautiful parts of the country on vacations with her husband and children, and later with her daughter. She was a much loved and adored daughter, sister, mother and grand mother. Her loss is felt profoundly. She is preceded in death by her mother, Juliet Murray Wilson, father,William Taft Wilson and Sister, Sarah Wilson Broberg. She is survived by her daughter Stacy Klein, of Portland, Oregon son Garry Smith, Jr., of Saint Paul, Minnesota and five-year-old granddaughter Tori Klein. Also survived by two sisters Ann Lack and Jane Willie.
A funeral service will be in the chapel of West Oaks Funeral Home in Sulphur Springs, Texas on Saturday, September 17, 2011 at 10 a.m. The graveside service will be in the Sulphur Springs City Cemetery immediately following the funeral. Visitation for family will be Friday evening, September 16 at West Oaks Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m.
